Solar PV Case Study: Residential Care Home, West London

On a busy road in a prominent position in Hanwell, West London, the residential care home has an 'L'shaped roof with two large flat southerly facing aspects (1 x South East, 1 x South West). Maintaining the original roof line we installed two large solar PV arrays within the roofspaces, replacing roof tiles with solar PV panels.

Enlarge Image	Background: The care home operates it's own kitchens, laundries and lifts, in addition to needing power for the staff and residents TVs, computers, radios, lights etc. A range of low energy solutions had already been successfully employed throughout the building. The addition of a powerful solar PV system means that the care home now only really uses power from the grid at night and on dull days. Exporting power to the grid as well as satisfying their own power demands for most of the day. Over the course of the year, the care home will be close to generating as much power from the roof as is used inside the building.
