Solar PV System Design & Equipment Supply
Back in 2007 when we first started the solar PV market was not nearly as developed as it is today; companies like ours and websites like this didn't really exist and solar PV was somewhat of a niche market. Quality equipment was difficult to find, as was information about how to buy it and how to correctly install it. Getting hold of quality components usually meant importing as choices in the UK were limited.
To get the equipment we needed we had to become distributors, in some cases with us being the only UK distributor for some manufacturers. Over the years we developed strong working relationships with some of the leading solar PV equipment manufacturers, particularly those in Germany.
These early relationships now mean we have the same buying power as the larger distribution companies that have since entered the market. On top of this we also have real working experience with the equipment and personal relationships built on years of experience with key people up and down very short supply chains. This we believe puts our clients at a huge advantage in terms of price, delivery, availabilty, accountability and service.
Around 60% - 65% of our business is in designing systems and supplying solar PV equipment (especially solar PV Mounting systems) to MCS Approved installers. Our strength lies in the enhanced support we offer; much more than ensuring equipment is specified correctly and arrives on-time; our engineers are willing and able to provide 'hands on' support and training for every system or component we supply including supporting an installation on-site if needed right through to completion.
Solar PV Installations
We have our own in-house MSC approved solar PV installations team and around 20%-25% of our business is solar PV installation work where we are employed directly by private and commercial clients. These systems are mainly custom builds with most new clients coming to us via referral. The solar PV systems we install are usually integrated into 3-phase power networks and are between 10-50kWp in size.
Every system that we install is custom designed in-house for our clients and unique to their projects. We project manage the complete process from start to finish and often go much further than the PV system installation alone. In the past we have arranged for new mains power supplies, new roofs, single to three phase upgrades, installed new power networks to remote buildings, rewired and re-roofed properties and acted as planning permission agents.
In essence we take a holistic approach to an installation in order to make the most out of the new PV system, looking at power usage as well as power generation and taking care of all the associated works required to optimise both. We take responsibility for every aspect of a build which may include roof work, electrical work, construction work and landscaping. We also take responsibity for insurances, compliance, subcontractors, equipment and all paperwork, providing our clients with a single point of contact.
Solar PV Support Services
Our knowledge and experience has been made all the wider and richer through our work with other specialists, in our time we have worked on a wide range of interesting and challenging energy and construction projects. From the start our business has been built up by working collaboratively and flexibly with others, we know what we are good at, namely electrical and mechanical engineering (specifically with installing solar PV systems). If your project has a PV sized hole in it we can help you fill it.
10% - 15% of the work we do is in providing specialist solar PV support services to building contractors, architects, roofers, other installers and other specialist trades.
Our Approach
We deal with every client openly and honestly, our reputation and our commitment to quality is what sets us apart from our competitors. We are engineers not eco warriors or salespeople and are motivated by designing and building the best performing systems we can within a given budget, location or mounting space.
To us the most successful solar PV systems are those where the client has been involved in design decisions from the outset. We believe that the way a system looks within it's environment is equally as important as how it performs and that the best judge of this is the client. Considerate designs taking into account the full range of technologies and possibilities means that we rarely see the need for major trade offs between asthetics and performance.
We are commited to solar power and we were installing solar PV systems long before the introduction of Feed in Tariffs (FITs). We believe that the ability to take control of a properties power supply using solar PV is one of the most empowering and affordable technologies available anywhere for normal households and businesses. This is the primary reason we started In Balance Energy and one that still drives us.
Location
We have recently moved to Wanborough, Nr Swindon so are at our most effective in terms of travel times and expense when working on projects in Southern England.
